How to setup Vienna Ensemble 3 using a Mac & PC

This setup is based on a and a Mac (Master) and a PC (slave) using Logic Pro 8.

To use Vienna Ensemble in Network Mode you will need a Gigabit Ethernet connection.

1. Connect an Ethernet lead between the Mac and the PC.

2. Download and install Vienna Ensemble 3 on both machines (you will have to be a registered VSl user and purchase Vienna Ensemble 3 from the VSL website)

 3. During the setup on the slave machine, set the directory to the location of the VSL library.

4. Once everything is installed run the VSL Ensemble Service on both machines. It is important the VSL Ensemble Service is running on both machines before you launch your sequencer.

5. On the master machines (mac) launch your sequencer. (Logic Pro 8).

6. Insert a new Multi Channel instrument and Select VSL Ensemble Multi Channel Output in the drop down instrument list.

7. Once you have selected the VSL Ensemble Multi Channel Output the Server Interface will open.

8. Make a note of the IP address of the master machine (Mac) eg. 169.254.72.99.

9. On the slave machine (PC) change the IP address to the same range as the as the master machine (mac) eg. 169.254.72.98.

10. Close everything including your sequencer and run the VSL Ensemble Service on each machine.

11. On the master machine run your sequencer and insert a new Multi Channel instrument and Select VSL Ensemble Multi Channel Output in the drop down instrument list. Once you have selected the VSL Ensemble Multi Channel Output the Server Interface will open.

12. When the Server Interface opens on the master machine you should see the slave machine listed on the left. select the slave machine and Vienna Ensemble will now launch automatically on the slave machine.

13. Once Vienna Ensemble has launched on the slave machine you can add the Vienna Instruments from within Vienna Ensemble. Each time you add a new instrument in Vienna Ensemble it will give it a different MIDI channel.
